Pickup & Delivery
How collection works, how to prepare the car, and what happens at the other end.
Door to door, where access allows
We collect from your address and deliver to theirs. Where a street is too narrow, a building has no access, or a carrier physically cannot reach the door, we agree an alternative collection or delivery point nearby — and we tell you before the day, not on it.
That is normally enough to schedule a collection. Tighter than that, ask us anyway — sometimes it can be done.
Preparing your vehicle
Four things, and they matter. A car that is not ready delays its own collection.
Enough to load and unload. Not more — fuel is weight, and a full tank is a hazard on a carrier.
It travels with the vehicle. Keep your spare.
The vehicle needs to start and move under its own power for loading. If it will not, tell us before the day — that is a different carrier and a different price.
Where the vehicle allows it. An alarm going off in transit is a problem nobody at the border enjoys.
Personal belongings
This is a prohibition, not a preference. The vehicle must be completely empty at collection. Any items found may be removed or disposed of by FMC without notice and without verification, and FMC accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for personal items left inside a vehicle.
This is not us being difficult. Your car is crossing an international border under a customs declaration, and anything inside it that is not on that declaration is a customs matter — attached to your vehicle and to our movement. Depending on what it is, that can be a serious one.
- Undeclared goods in a vehicle are a customs violation at the border
- Items are not insured, at any level of cover
- A loaded vehicle can be refused at collection
At delivery
The handover is where a claim is won or lost. Take the ten minutes.
Walk it before you sign. Any damage must be raised there and then, before the vehicle leaves the delivery point.
Your signature is the record of the vehicle's condition on arrival. It is the document any claim rests on.
The key travels with the vehicle and is handed over on acceptance.
If you or your authorised representative is unavailable at delivery, the vehicle is held until redelivery can be arranged. Storage, waiting time and redelivery charges may apply. Send someone, or tell us in advance and we will reschedule.
