Insurance

What is covered as standard, what is not, and how to protect a valuable vehicle properly.

Standard transport is not comprehensive insurance

Vehicles move under the carrier's legal liability only. That is a limited, statutory liability governed by the carrier's own terms — it is not the same thing as insuring your car for its value. If your vehicle is worth protecting, arrange transit insurance before it moves.

The two levels of cover

Understand the difference before you book, not after.

Standard

Carrier legal liability

Applies to every movement by default. Subject to the carrier's terms, conditions and statutory liability limits. It is not comprehensive vehicle insurance and does not cover your vehicle to its market value.

Recommended

Comprehensive transit insurance

Arranged on request, priced against your vehicle's declared value. This is the cover most customers assume they already have. For anything valuable, classic or performance, take it.

It must be arranged before transport begins

Transit insurance cannot be added once the vehicle has been collected. Tell us at the point of booking, and declare the vehicle's true value.

What is not covered

These exclusions apply regardless of which level of cover you hold.

  • Personal belongings — these are prohibited inside the vehicle entirely
  • Pre-existing damage
  • Mechanical or electrical failure
  • Wear and tear
  • Stone chips
  • Delayed delivery and any consequential loss
  • War, riot and force majeure
  • Government action or customs seizure outside the carrier's control

Making a claim

The window is narrow and it is not negotiable. Damage must be raised at delivery, before the vehicle leaves the delivery point.

01
Inspect before you sign

Walk the vehicle at delivery. Any damage must be reported there and then — before the vehicle leaves the delivery location and before you accept it.

02
Photograph it

Clear photographs of the damage, at the delivery point, are what a claim stands or falls on.

03
Submit the paperwork

A claim needs the signed inspection report, your photographs, and the relevant transport documents. We will tell you exactly what to send.

Once you accept delivery, the claim is closed

Claims raised after the vehicle has been accepted and has left the delivery location, or submitted without supporting evidence, may not be accepted. This is why the inspection at handover matters.
