Which applies to this vehicle?

Only tick this if it is true. A vehicle on export documents is a permanent import, and duty and VAT will be charged at the border whether or not you selected this. If the paperwork does not match what you told us, the shipment will be stopped and you will bear the cost.

Customs charge duty and VAT on this figure. We need it to estimate what you will pay at the border.

This vehicle is not being permanently imported

Only tick this if the vehicle genuinely is not being permanently imported.

There are two situations where no import duty or VAT is due:

Carnet de Passage or Trip Ticket
A temporary import document, issued against a deposit. The car enters the country, and it must leave again within the period on the document. Used for touring, motorsport, exhibitions, and cars going in for work.

Already registered in the destination country
The car is on Saudi, Qatari, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Omani or UAE plates and is simply going home. It was already imported, and the duty was already paid.

If the car is on export documents, it is a permanent import. Duty and VAT will be charged at the border regardless of what you selected here. Do not tick this box hoping to avoid them — customs will assess the vehicle on its paperwork, the shipment will be held, and the cost of that delay falls on you.

If you are not sure which applies, leave the box unticked and ask us. We will tell you before the truck moves.

What is the vehicle worth?

Customs at the destination charge import duty and VAT based on what the vehicle is worth. We need that figure to estimate what you will be asked for at the border.

If you are unsure, use the current insured value, or the current market value. That is what customs will be working from.

Do not understate it. Customs value vehicles independently, and a declared figure that is obviously below market will be reassessed — usually upwards, and usually with a delay while they do it.

The duty is charged on the vehicle's value plus the cost of transporting it, which is why our transport charge appears in the calculation. VAT is then charged on the total of the two plus the duty.

Everything we show you is an estimate. The assessment is made by customs, not by us, and we do not collect these charges — you pay them at the border.

Duty and VAT figures are estimates. The final assessment is made by customs at the destination, not by us, and we do not collect these charges.

Estimate the vehicle value

Tell us about the car and we will estimate what it is worth on the UAE used market.

This is an estimate to help you fill in the field — not a valuation. The more you tell us, the closer it will be.

Working out what this car is worth in the UAE…

Estimated market value

This is not a valuation. Customs at the destination will assess the vehicle independently, and their figure is the one that counts. If you have an insurance valuation, use that instead — it is closer to what customs will work from.

We have filled in the midpoint. Change it if you think it should be higher or lower.

You can still type a figure in yourself — use the insured value or the current market value.
